Just a quick drive from Vancouver awaits this sparking village that looks like it's been plucked from the set of a Hallmark Christmas movie.

You can wind your way through the pedestrian-only alleys and past twinkling storefronts here, and get some holiday shopping done.

Distract 1881 is a neighbourhood in Chilliwack, about an hour and a half drive from Vancouver, that comes alive during the holiday season.

Right downtown this place is a European-inspired village with local businesses, that will make you feel like you've been transported to somewhere far away.

The local stores and restaurants deck the halls for Christmas, and the community puts on festive events too.

There are photo ops with Santa, a 40-foot Christmas tree, and a coastal drumming event on December 21 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The holiday events kicked off here earlier this month, but they run all through December so you have lots of time to go and experience the magic.

The decorations actually stay up until the second week of January, if you want to extend the Christmas spirit a bit.

There's no charge to go into District 1881 either, so it's the perfect activity to enjoy this season without breaking the bank.
