It might have been hard to tell since the skies are so smokey from U.S. forest fires, but there was also a fire at the Westminster Pier in Metro Vancouver on Sunday, September 13.

Mayor Jonathan Cote tweeted that after speaking with the fire chief, he doesn't think that the old pier will be saved at all.

New Westminster Police say that the fire is contained but still burning the wooden wharf at the Westminster Pier Park.

The popular park was completely ablaze and the photos and videos of the event are heartbreaking, especially if you grew up here and know the big "W" to be a crown jewel for New Westminster.
