A short 20-minutes on BC Ferries ride will get you to this tiny island from Vancouver. While it's just across the water it feels like you're far away from the city life, with the little town, quaint shops, and scenic views all around.

Bowen Island is a go-to day trip for people in the city, and is especially fun when the sun comes out, the flowers are blooming, and you can enjoy the outdoors.

You can take a car or just walk onto the ferry, which drops you off drive in Snug Cove. There you'll find restaurants and shops within walking distance, as well as some trails to beautiful lookouts.

If you want to explore more of the island (which you definitely should) you can head out on a Bowen eBikes tour, or a sea kayaking adventure to check it out from a different perspective.

The island is hilly and had narrow roads, but it's a beautiful place to cycle around. Going down the country roads you can take the the vibrant greenery and get peeks of the ocean.

There's lots of trails on the island, and one of the most popular hikes in Mount Gardner — the highest peak on Bowen Island. From the top you'll get an incredible view of the water with other little islands dotting it.

Take you pick of trails though, because you're not likely to be disappointed. There's lush forests, seaside strolls, or just rocky beaches to lay out on and enjoy a slower-paced day.

If you want a breath of fresh air this spring, head to Bowen.
