Summer trips are calling.

We all know that some of the most spectacular beauty lies far away from the big city streets, tucked away in nature. This small town in B.C. proves that to be true, as a hidden gem surrounded by mountain ranges, thick forests, and endless beauty.
It's a place that's often overlooked, but was recently shouted out by locals on the Narcity Canada Facebook page, named as one of the best vacation spots in the province.
Smithers is a little town set in northwestern B.C., with a tight-knit community and endless adventures at its doorstep.
About halfway between Prince Rupert and Prince George, the town maintains a "hidden gem" feel, without crowds of tourists and visitors. It's a worth-while destination though, with lots to do and unbelievable nature beauty.
The town itself has a classic mountain town vibe with local breweries, bakeries restaurants, and shops. The Main Street is lively was actually named the "Best Main Street" People’s Choice Award Winner, by Great Places In Canada.
The Bulkley Valley Farmers' Market is also here, and a fun activity on a Saturday morning in the summer. Strolling around town you'll get your fill of charm, all with the backdrop of the mountains.
Winter fun is big here, with world-class skiing at Hudson Bay Mountain resort, and backcountry ski touring.
Summer brings it's own kind of adventure though, with days out on the rivers and lakes of the area.
In town you can take your pick of tours and rentals and head out onto the water on canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, or rafts. There's also spots to just lay out and go for a swim, like the popular Tyhee Lake just outside of town.
Of course, there's also unreal hiking here, parks, and even horse-back riding trips if you want a more unique way to get out in nature.
There's hotels, cabins, and inns around the area to stay, but in the summer months nothing beats soaking up the nature like camping. There's a bunch of campgrounds around so you can enjoy a warm night by a camp fire under the stars.
If you want a trip full of adventure and small-town charm — this is the spot.
