An Arson Suspect Was Just Arrested In BC After The Westminster Pier Burned For Days

Although the skies are smokey, British Columbians are breathing a sigh of relief because after the Westminster Pier near Vancouver burned for days sending toxic smoke into the air, police have arrested a suspect.

On Tuesday, September 17 New Westminster Police announced that they arrested a male for arson-related offences.

[...] the NWPD do not believe the public are at further risk and are not looking for additional suspects.

Although they have their suspect, the NWPD Major Crime Unit is still investigating to gather evidence that would be used to prosecute the suspect and they're still looking for input from the public if they saw or know anything.

The old pier erupted into flames and smoke on Sunday night, September 13 and continued to burn for days after.

NWPD's suspect has been released upon various conditions, but the pier is completely blackened, still burning, and won't be the same.
