Last chance to claim your share of the $12.5M WestJet class action lawsuit in Canada
If you paid for a checked bag on a WestJet flight, you might be eligible! 👀

You could be eligible for part of a $12.5M class action settlement related to WestJet baggage fees.
If you paid for your checked bag on a WestJet flight in recent years, you might be entitled to claim a piece of a $12.5 million class action settlement in Canada.
A class action lawsuit over WestJet's baggage fees alleged that the airline charged fees that went against its published rates, and while WestJet has not admitted liability, a $12.5 million settlement was approved back in October.
Now, Canadians who flew with WestJet and were affected by the baggage fee issue could be entitled to travel credits from the airline if eligible.
The deadline to submit your claim is just two weeks away, so if you're eligible for the WestJet class action and haven't filed a claim yet, you'll need to act fast!
Here's everything you need to know to find out if you're eligible, what you can get and how to file your claim.
Who is eligible?
You might be part of the settlement class if you booked a WestJet flight directly with the airline and paid a fee for your first checked bag during these time periods:
- For Canadian domestic flights: Tickets issued on or after September 15, 2014, for travel between October 29, 2014, and July 29, 2017.
- For U.S. and international flights: Tickets issued on or after November 3, 2015, for travel between January 6, 2016, and February 27, 2019.
The flights must have been booked under a rate that indicated the first checked bag should have been free.
What can you get?
Eligible class members will receive WestJet Travel Bank credits, which can be used to book future flights. These credits will be valid for 24 months, and there are no blackout periods, so you'll have plenty of time to plan your next getaway.
The amount you'll get will depend on how many other people submit a claim, since the settlement will be divided amongst the class, but the estimated payout per person is between $10 and $20.
How do you file a claim?
To get your credits, you need to submit a claim by February 10, 2025. There are three ways to do this:
- Pre-filled online form: If you received an email notice from the claims administrator, use the unique ID and PIN provided to submit a pre-filled claim form online.
- Electronic claim form: If you didn't receive an email or don't have a unique ID and PIN, you can still submit your claim online. You'll need to fill out the form and upload proof of your eligibility, such as booking receipts or travel itineraries.
- Paper claim form: If you prefer to use a paper form, you can download it here, fill it out and mail it with proof of eligibility to the claims administrator. Your envelope will need to be postmarked by the deadline, February 10.
You can only submit one claim, so don't send multiple forms.
