It’s time to say goodbye! With the premiere of 13 Reasons Why season four right around the corner, fans of the Netflix original series are beginning to speculate what will happen in the series finale. From the looks of things, death and justice are two topics that viewers could be seeing a lot of.

Back in 2019, the streaming service announced that 13 Reasons Why would be coming to an end after its fourth season. Although it’s been deemed controversial, the series has developed a large fan base over the years.

Since the show’s third season premiered late last summer, people have been speculating about what will happen in the episodes to come, and the recently released trailer confirmed that we’re in for one twisted ride.

The sneak peek at season four includes plenty of footage of Clay, who seems to be dealing with a ton of inner emotional turmoil over events of the past. Some Reddit users have come up with a theory that he may even be experiencing a psychotic break.

“He’s been through so much and is literally traumatized for real after everything he literally sees ghosts. I think that this season will focus on Clay’s psychology and he might go insane in the end,” one person speculated.

One pivotal moment in the trailer shows the students of Liberty High gathering around graffiti that reads “Monty was framed.” Although the video doesn’t reveal the face of who wrote the statement, another Reddit thread is pointing fingers at Clay.

Viewers pointed out that the hooded figure appears to be his height, and that he’s previously tagged Zach’s car in an earlier season.

“If it is Clay, think maybe he might have done it as a way of coping with the truth without having to spill it out in words,” one comment on the thread reads.

Yet another theory being tossed around is that in season four, Zach will die. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Brian Yorkey revealed that Zach’s storyline in the unreleased episodes is “really interesting”, causing fans to speculate.

“I will say that in season 4 we take Zach places that I had not expected until we really got into the room and delved into his story,” Yorkey said in the interview.

“I've always loved that character and I love Ross Butler, so that was a lot of fun and a challenge and also a wonderful collaboration and I think it's going to be cool to watch.”

One final theory about the upcoming episodes is that the series will end the way it began — with 13 tapes.

Bustle reports that fans have been mulling over the idea that Bryce may have made some tapes of his own before his shocking death, apologizing to the other main characters for his actions.

No matter how many of these theories prove to be true, one thing’s for sure — the series is going to go out with a bang.

13 Reasons Why season four is coming to Netflix on Friday, June 5. You can check out the haunting trailer for the final episodes below.
