AstraZeneca Doses Are Expiring Soon & Canada Is Reportedly Asking Provinces To Share Them
The federal government is apparently offering help to make this happen.
Provinces and territories across Canada are reportedly being urged to share thousands of AstraZeneca vaccine doses that are set to expire.
The Canadian Press says it obtained a letter from federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu, requesting that provinces and territories that aren't able to administer the doses by the end of May hand them over to ones that can.
According to the report, Hajdu said the Public Health Agency of Canada can help coordinate if a province or territory decides that all of its doses can't be given out to people before they expire.
Ontario recently decided to resume administering second doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to residents who received their first dose in March.
"We are providing these individuals with a safe option based on the available data and evidence and will continue to work with Health Canada to monitor the quality and efficacy of all COVID-19 vaccines being used in Ontario," said Ontario's chief medical officer of health, Dr. David Williams, in a statement.
