BC Is Asking People To Avoid Travelling To These Areas As Wildfires Worsen

The province has put a travel warning in place for parts of the interior.

As wildfires continue to rage across British Columbia, the province has issued a travel warning urging visitors to stay away from parts of the Interior.

"While we are acting out of an abundance of caution, this situation is very serious and could get worse quickly," said Mike Farnworth, minister of public safety and solicitor general, in a statement. "If you were planning to travel to the area, now is not the time to do so."

According to EmergencyInfoBC, the areas of Armstrong, Spallumcheen, Okanagan Indian Band, Enderby, Splatsin and parts of the Regional District North Okanagan are bracing for evacuation orders and alerts as heavy winds are expected to move the fires quickly.

In addition to the ongoing wildfires, the communities in the area are also dealing with above-season temperatures and smokey conditions.

A tweet from the BC Wildfire Service on Sunday, August 15 is urging residents to have their emergency plans in place, to check DriveBC for road closures, and to visit EmergencyMapBC for any alerts or orders in effect.
