Is it too soon for this? An Alberta Labour Day snowfall is a possibility for some parts of the province and people could wake up to a light dusting on the holiday. If you hate winter, this will probably be upsetting for you.

While it's technically still summer for another couple of weeks, winter is knocking on the door already.

Some parts of Alberta could be getting a rude awakening this Labour Day long weekend.

The Weather Network has forecasted that a weak low-pressure system will track over the Rockies and into Alberta Sunday night and through to Monday.

That will unfortunately bring winter-like precipitation despite it being the wrong season for that.

It's all happening because of a temperature swing throughout the Prairies but especially in Alberta.

"Overnight lows will hover near freezing on Sunday night, allowing for high-elevation snow along the foothills," said Jessie Uppal, a meteorologist with The Weather Network.

On Labour Day, temperatures will struggle to even hit the double digits.

It's forecasted that there could be two to five centimetres of snow or maybe even more in some areas with higher elevations getting the most accumulation.

While snow at the beginning of September might be a little depressing for people who love summer, there is some good news.

Temperatures are going to claw their way back up by Tuesday so the snow won't stay on the ground for long.

However, it's best to start getting mentally prepared because this could be happening more often because winter is just about 15 weeks away!

This isn't the first unseasonal forecast for the region.

On Canada Day, there was snowfall in the Rockies that blanketed a ski resort in Banff National Park.

Just over a week later, a storm brought so much hail to one Alberta town that it actually looked like snow.

Even though it's not even autumn yet, Canada's winter forecast has arrived and the season could be extra cold and snowy.
