A new winter forecast for the 2025-2026 chilly season has dropped, revealing when people in B.C. and Alberta can expect the snowiest weather to arrive. This winter is expected to be a mixed bag, so prepare yourself and make the most of the sun while it lasts.

The Old Farmer's Almanac has released a Canadian winter forecast, predicting that some parts of the country will experience a classic Canadian winter, while others will get to enjoy less chilly temps.

For the southern Prairies, including Calgary and Edmonton, people can expect above-normal temperatures overall for the winter. The coldest periods are expected to be in late November, early December, and early February, so be prepared to bundle up still.

Precipitation is also expected to be above normal, with snowfall set to be below normal in those areas. The forecast said that the snowiest stretches should be in late November and early December.

Not all of Alberta is going to enjoy the milder winter, though. Snowfall is set to be above normal in the northwestern Prairies, according to the forecast.

Southern B.C. — which includes Vancouver — is also expected to experience above-normal temperatures overall. The coldest periods for the area should be in late November, early December, and early February.

Precipitation is predicted to be below normal in the north, but above normal in the south. Snowfall is also expected to be below normal for southern B.C, with the snowiest periods in late November, early and mid-December.

All in all, those in the southern Prairies and extreme southern British Columbia should prepare for a "wet winter" ahead.
