Alberta has experienced a chilly winter with plenty of ups and downs, but spring is just around the corner. However, before we can fully embrace warmer days, we have to push through the last stretch of winter weather.

The March 2025 weather forecast is out, and it looks like Alberta is in for some messy conditions. While the spring weather forecast calls for stormy and wet weather, along with warmer-than-normal temperatures, March itself will still be quite chilly.

The Old Farmer's Almanac breaks down the long range weather forecast for the Prairies as one region, encompassing Edmonton and Calgary. According to the 2025 Old Farmer's Almanac forecast, next month’s temperatures will be about 1°C below average for the region, with total precipitation reaching 30mm — 10mm above the norm.

The start of the month will be rainy, with snow in the west and chilly temperatures. Those in the Prairies will catch a bit of a break mid-month, as sunny and mild weather is expected between March 10-14. However, that reprieve will be short-lived, with colder temperatures and a mix of rain and snow returning soon after. The end of the month should offer some optimism, with sunny skies, lingering cold, but overall milder temperatures to close it out.

Looking ahead, April will bring a noticeable shift, with temperatures rising to 4°C above average and precipitation returning to normal levels. Spring is coming — but Alberta has a few more winter hurdles to clear first.
