If you're planning to buy a house in 2025, you might want to turn your attention west. A new ranking of the best places in Canada to buy real estate this year has crowned an Alberta city as one of the top spots for real estate.

MoneySense.ca's list of Where to Buy Real Estate in Canada was crafted in partnership with Zoocasa, and based on factors like price trends and affordability. While Fredericton, New Brunswick snagged the top spot, Calgary came in close behind — ranking second overall in the country.

As one of the biggest cities in the country Calgary still manages to have some affordable options (unlike the other Canadian hubs like Toronto and Vancouver).

The Moneysense ranking said that "homes are less affordable in Calgary compared to those in our other top-five cities and regions, having appreciated about $128,000 over three years. Fortunately, pockets of affordability remain in some Calgary neighbourhoods."

As the city and its neighbourhoods grow, Calgary is a good spot to buy it seems.

As for where exactly in the city to buy, Moneysense also breaks down the top neighbourhoods. Greenwood-Greenbriar, Abbeydale and Penbrooke Meadows are stand-outs in the city, according to the ranking.

As Calgary continues to grow and evolve, it seems like now might be a smart time to get in the market.
