If you've been dying for a good old movie night, you don't have to wait any longer. Three Cineplex theatres are reopening in Calgary on Friday, June 26. To welcome film-lovers back to the theatre, Cineplex Calgary ticket prices will only be $5. On Tuesdays, it dips down even lower to just $3 per person.

The movie theatre chain's initial press release announced that Alberta is the first province to see movie theatres resume their services.

Moreover, Calgary and Edmonton are the first cities in Alberta to have Cineplex open their doors again — the other Albertan locations are set to welcome the public again on July 3.

In a more recent press release, the company listed the theatres opening on Friday as well as the safety procedures they're going to be carrying out.

Calgarians can expect to see movies at the Cineplex Odeon Crowfoot Crossing Cinemas, the Cineplex Odeon Sunridge Spectrum Cinemas, and Cineplex Cinemas Seton and VIP.

Outside of deep sanitation and physical distancing, a whole bunch of new rules have also been put in place to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19.

For example, you'll only be able to reserve seats beforehand. This means entire sections won't show up when you go online to pick your seats.

Parties that haven't shown up together to watch movies will be kept at least two meters apart.

According to Cineplex's reopening plan, entire auditoriums will undergo a thorough cleaning process before each show, including seats and handrails.

Guests are advised to wear masks, though it's not mandatory. Don't worry if you forget, the theatre will be providing masks. Staff will be wearing PPE at all times.

In terms of ticketing, you'll no longer be able to actually get your tickets at the counter. You have to use the contactless machines or the self-service kiosks. If you have any issues, you can go up to the concession stand.

Cash payments are a no-go as well.

So you might be wondering what can viewers can actually watch since no new movies are being released.

Cineplex said that they'll be airing movies released before pandemic such as Sonic The Hedgehog, Jumanji: The Next Level, Bad Boys for Life, Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey, and more.
