Can you believe the week is almost over? Because we can’t. It’s that time of the week where you look at all the things to do in Calgary this weekend and begin planning your next move. From festivals to romantic walks, we thought of it all.
This season is beautiful for so many reasons and we came up with a list of things you need to do this weekend in Calgary that give you a real peek into the beauty of the city.
Editor's Choice: If Calgary's Bubble Tea Teddy Bears Don't Cheer You Up, Nothing Will
Whether you have a friend group that loves activities or you're looking for a solo adventure, this list has it all.
We only have a couple of days of work left so now is the time to start thinking of what'll make the perfect weekend.
The awesome part is that a lot of these activities are free so you don’t need to spend a dime to have a good time.
While there are always fun things going on in Calgary, some options on the list will require a quick road trip so be sure you fill up with gas before you hit the road.
Watch The Air Balloon Festival
When: All weekend
Why You Need To Go: All weekend long there'll be a massive air balloon festival going on outside of Calgary and you need to look up. There’ll be 17 balloon pilots in High River manning a wide variety of colourful balloons. You’ll be able to see them throughout the entire city so keep your eyes to the sky.
Go Fall Thrift Shopping
Price: $1 per item for 100 items, $0.75 per item for 101-250 items, and $0.50 for over 250 items
Address: Unit 141, 7007 54 St., S.E., Calgary
Why You Need To Go: Calgary has tons of thrift stores but one of the coolest, and newest, is super cheap. The more you buy the more you save but your first 100 items are only $1 each. This means you literally could get 100 new fall clothing items for $100 and that’s a deal.
Visit The Longest Bridge
Address: Lethbridge, AB
Why You Need To Go: The longest and tallest trestle bridge in the world is a short drive from Calgary. If you’re looking for sights but aren’t looking to travel far then this is the thing for you. Fair warning, you can't climb the bridge so stay on the path.
Go On A Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt
When: Saturday, September 26
Why You Need To Go: For one day only, you can take part in a Harry Potter-themed scavenger hunt. You can have a team of up to six people so start calling your friends. Tickets are going fast so get them while you still can.
Spend The Day At A Cat Cafe
Price: $5 per person
Address: 12 Royal Vista Way N.W. #1134, Calgary, AB
Why You Need To Go: The weekend is all about relaxing and what better way to kick back then by snuggling a cute kitty? Cafe and Mi is an adorable spot with amazing brunch but even better animals. If you can’t have animals at your apartment then this is the closest you’ll get to feeling like a cat mom.
Visit Stephen Avenue
Address: Stephen Ave., Calgary, AB
Why You Need To Go: If you’re looking for romance then look no further. Stephen Avenue has some of the best scenery and things to do in town. You’ll feel like you’re in a Nicholas Sparks novel as you walk down these twinkle light lit streets.
Go For A Stoll Along Douglas Fir Trail
Address: Edworthy Park, Calgary, AB
Why You Need To Go: This dog-friendly walk is perfect if you're looking to get out of the house for some peace and quiet but want to take your fur baby with you. It’s a 2.5-kilometre trail that takes you through some lush foliage that both you and Fido will enjoy. Be sure to bring water for everyone.
