The decision was announced by Health Canada on February 26, 2021, however, they later removed the webpage detailing the approval.

This comes after months of review for this particular vaccine.

According to Health Canada's website detailing all the COVID-19 related drugs and vaccines under review, AstraZeneca submitted their application on October 1, 2020.

In announcing the approval, the government agency said that this vaccine is "indicated for active immunization of individuals 18 years of age and older for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)."

Canada has an agreement to receive 20 million doses of this vaccine.
