Now we know. As part of Canada's single-use plastic ban, there are six items on the government's list.

Minister of Environment and Climate Change Jonathan Wilkinson revealed what Canada will be getting rid of in the near future.

Plastic grocery bags, straws, stir sticks, plastic cutlery, six-pack rings and food takeout containers made from hard to recycle plastics will be banned nationwide.

2021 When the government's ban could take effect.

This ban could come into effect as early as 2021 and there's also a plan to have zero plastic waste in Canada by 2030.

Wilkinson said that the government will be working with grocers to recycle plastic as a lot of food comes from stores.

So even if people bring their own reusable bags to shop, they still bring home plastic that might not get recycled.

There will also be proposed regulations to develop higher standards for plastic products and packaging to make them more recyclable.

This ban doesn't affect access to PPE.

Multiple cities, provinces and stores have already done away with items that are included in the ban like single-use plastic bags.
