Decisions About Reopening The Border Will Be ‘Made Here In Canada’ Says Trudeau

Trump and Trudeau have been sending mixed messages. 😬

When it comes to reopening the Canada-U.S. border, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and President Donald Trump have been sending somewhat mixed messages.

However, during an interview with Mark Critch on comedy show This Hour Has 22 Minutes last week, the Canadian PM made his position on the matter clear.

Critch asked, “You say the border is staying closed but President Trump says you’re close to opening it. Is that true, or is it ‘fake news?’”

Decisions on what Canadians do with the border will be made here in Canada.

"We will continue to put the protection of Canadians first and foremost," he said. "That border is continuing to stay closed for another month."

Critch went on to joke, “President Trump said this weekend that if he loses the election he may leave the country… is that why you won’t open the border?”

The Canadian PM laughed, before adding, “You know, we’re all watching how things unfold south of the border and, as you know, I will work with whoever gets elected or re-elected.”

Previously, the two leaders couldn't seem to agree when it came to travel restrictions between the two countries.

While Trump has suggested that the border could reopen in the near future, Trudeau has said this won't happen until the COVID-19 situation in the United States has improved.
