You don't need to travel far to experience the magic of the Amazon. Canada has its own version of this majestic destination, and it can be found right here in Ontario.

With scenic riverbanks, vine-covered trees and plenty of wildlife, you'll be transported to another land as you explore the area.

Big Creek is a winding waterway in Norfolk County that flows through a lush Carolinian forest shaded by a towering canopy of leaves. Its jungle-like atmosphere has earned it the nickname "The Canadian Amazon."

You can immerse yourself in this lush destination with Long Point Eco-Adventures. The company offers kayak tours up and down Big Creek, giving you a front-row seat to the area's unique landscape.

You'll paddle past towering Sycamore and Black Walnut trees draped with wild grape and Virginia creeper vines, as well as wildlife like the soaring bald eagle, elusive mink or white-tailed deer.

This tour is ideal for first-time paddlers as well as more experienced kayakers and includes a picnic break about halfway through.

During the spring, you can expect to see baby animals out on the creek, as well as nesting birds and turtles. The summer is the best time to see wildlife, while the fall offers views of migrating birds.

The tours can be booked online and offer a totally unique outdoor experience.

If you're craving a jungle adventure, this Ontario destination offers a little slice of the Amazon without a plane ticket.
