Think you need to head south for canyon views? This natural wonder in Ontario brings Grand Canyon vibes without leaving the province. You'll feel like you're on a mini trip to Arizona as you gaze across the towering cliffs and hike majestic trails.

Ouimet Canyon, located in Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park near Thunder Bay, is a breathtaking hidden gem.

According to Destination Ontario, it's "Canada's answer to the Grand Canyon" and features a 150-metre-wide gorge with dramatic cliffs plunging 100 metres to the canyon floor.

The park is reopening on May 16, 2025, so you can enjoy some stunning canyon adventures soon.

You can hike along the 1-kilometre trail loop, which leads over a picturesque bridge and to two viewing platforms perched on the canyon's rim.

The platforms are connected by a scenic boardwalk and offer sweeping views of the surrounding canyon.

The canyon has a unique environment where arctic plants, usually found 1,000 kilometres north, can thrive.

You'll want to keep your eyes on the sky, as the canyon offers some great bird-watching opportunities. Parts of the raised boardwalk trail bring you close to the forest canopy, where you can see and hear beautiful birds.

During your visit, you can head over to the nearby Eagle Canyon Adventures, home to Canada's longest suspension footbridge.

Whether you're craving adventure or beautiful views, this majestic canyon will transport you to Arizona without leaving the province.
