In the past few years, several very talented individuals from our country have passed away, leaving behind unforgettable legacies.

One of the most recent losses that the True North has seen is that of Nick Cordero, who died at age 41 after a long-winded battle with COVID-19.

Over the years, our country has suffered the loss of several talented actors, musicians, athletes, and activists, among other people.

Cory Monteith

Cory Monteith was born in Calgary, Alberta and moved to Victoria, British Columbia at a young age, IMDb reports. He was best known for his role as Finn Hudson on the hit series Glee.

In his early teens, Monteith developed a serious drug problem, the site notes. Only July 13, 2013, the actor overdosed on heroin and alcohol, resulting in his tragic death at the age of 31.

On the seventh anniversary of his passing, the body of the late actor's Glee co-star Naya Rivera was discovered after she disappeared during a boating accident.

Nick Cordero

Earlier this month, Broadway star Nick Cordero passed away after a months-long battle with COVID-19. He is survived by his wife Amanda, and their infant son.

Cordero grew up in the city of Hamilton, Ontario, which is where he discovered his love for music and theatre before making a name for himself in the industry.

Godfrey Gao

According to the Progress, Godfrey Gao was born in the city Taipei, Taiwan, although he moved to Vancouver as a child and went on to study at Capilano University.

The famed model passed away in November of 2019 at the age of 35 after suffering a heart attack while filming the Chinese variety series Chase Me in the city of Ningbo.

Stefanie Sherk

Born in January of 1982 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, actress and model Stefanie Sherk appeared in films like Star Power, Valentine's Day, and Crash Landing, IMDb reports.

According to Daily Mail, Sherk died by apparent suicide in mid-2019 when she was found at the bottom of her pool by husband Demian Bichir — she was 43 years old.

Elly Mayday

Ashley Shandrel Luther, who is better known by the name of Elly Mayday, was a plus-sized Canadian model who was born in the small Saskatchewan village of Aylesbury.

CBC reports that after a 5 year-long battle with ovarian cancer, Mayday succumbed to the disease at the age of 30.

Gord Downie

Gord Downie made a name for himself as the frontman of Canadian band The Tragically Hip and was beloved by many.

According to Rolling Stone, the rock music icon was diagnosed with brain cancer back in 2015 and passed away after a two-year fight in October of 2017.
