Changes are coming! Everyone on the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) could soon be transitioned onto Employment Insurance (EI) instead.

During a press conference on July 31, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that his government has a goal to move Canadians off of the CERB and onto EI.

EI should cover every Canadian who's looking for work.

With the change, there is also going to be support for people who don't qualify for EI right now like contract or gig workers.

Trudeau said that a transitional parallel benefit that's similar to EI will be created.

It will include giving workers access to training and the ability to work more hours and make more money while still getting the benefit.

"We intend to cover every Canadian who is looking for work with a better 21st century EI system," Trudeau said.

There will be no increase to EI premiums during this time, he noted.

More details about these changes will be coming before the end of August.
