Lead Writer, Travel

You can enjoy a little slice of Greek paradise without a lengthy flight. This destination is just a short plane ride from Toronto and feels like a trip to Mykonos.

Situated in Florida's Tampa Bay area, the coastal city boasts Greek heritage, scenic cruises, enchanting streets and unique attractions.

Tarpon Springs is a dreamy waterfront community known for its Greek vibes and history. It's just a 3 hour flight from Toronto and you can score round trip tickets for under $300, depending on when you book and which airline you fly.

Currently, airlines such as Porter and WestJet are offering flights from Toronto Pearson Airport to Tampa International Airport for under $300.

Tarpon Springs is located around 40 minutes from the airport. You can book a taxi or ride hailing service to get to your destination.

As soon as you step into Tarpon Springs, you'll "feel like you’ve been whisked away to a coastal Greek village where the sound of bouzouki music spills out into the sidewalk along with the scent of enticing food," according to Visit St. Pete-Clearwater.

The city was founded in the late 1800s and is currently home to one of the largest Greek communities in the United States.

It's known as the "Sponge Capital of the World" and you can check out the Sponge Docks and see the famous sponge boats.

You can also explore the Greektown Historic District which is brimming with authentic architecture and will sweep you away to another world. There's a Walk Tarpon Springs Audio Tour which takes you through the area and provides stories about the town's past.

Other highlights of Tarpon Springs include Greek restaurants, Fred Howard Park and cruises.

With authentic Greek architecture, sparkling waters and quaint streets, this destination is a little slice of Europe that's just a short flight from Toronto.
