With COVID-19 in Canada still posing a threat, Dr. Theresa Tam has advice for the winter season and she said that we can't let our guard down during holiday celebrations.

In a statement posted on November 4, the country's top doctor noted that our activities are moving indoors as the weather gets colder.

She wants people to avoid closed spaces with bad ventilation, crowded places and close contact situations because that could spread the virus more.

Letting our guard down and not consistently maintaining public health practises, such as physical distancing and mask-wearing, can lead to many exposures and infections. Dr. Theresa Tam

She said that COVID-19 is spreading in informal social gatherings and activities.

This winter, relaxed settings like family gatherings and holiday celebrations can lead to a lot of exposures and infections if we let our guard down.

That would be if we don't follow public health guidelines like physical distancing and wearing masks.

Dr. Tam had previously said that we can still celebrate events like Hanukkah and Christmas this year as long as we do it safely.

She also noted that we're all probably going to drop the ball at one point or another but we should "pick it up and keep going."
