In the U.S. election, Canada's population accounts for over half of all the votes Joe Biden has so far. In fact, the presidential candidate has now secured the most votes in American history.

As of 1:40 p.m. EST on November 4, it's been reported that the former vice president has surpassed the record popular vote total Barack Obama had in 2008.

At that time, Biden had 70,172,017 votes according to the Associated Press and 69,762,009 as per The New York Times.

Biden's numbers continue to climb as more votes get counted, and the same goes for Donald Trump's portion of the vote.

Back in 2008, Obama got 69,498,516 votes.

Even though no winner has been declared in the 2020 presidential election, two major sources now claim Biden has beaten Obama's record threshold.

Trump has also reportedly surpassed the number of votes he got back in 2016. According to CNN, he has over 66 million votes as of 1:40 p.m. EST.

As the results continue to trickle in, Trump described the mail-in votes as "very strange."
