Canada's Only Region With No Reported COVID-19 Cases Just Announced Its First

It's official, COVID-19 in Canada has reached another grim milestone. 

Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut's chief public health officer, confirmed that the territory, which was the only region in the country to have zero cases reported, has its first official instance of COVID-19.

The positive case is in the community of Sanikiluaq, which is located in the southern part of Hudson Bay near Ontario and Quebec.

Residents of Sanikiluaq are being asked to stay at home and limit their contact with other people including family members that aren't in their household. 

The person who tested positive and their family are said to be doing well and in isolation right now. 

"Please remember that a confirmed case is not a reason to panic. We've prepared for this and are responding, " said Nunavut Premier Joe Savikataaq.

There are actually people in Nunavut who have COVID-19 but none of those cases have been included in the territory's case count because they were contained to mine sites.

So those cases had been counted wherever in Canada the workers are from.
