The CFL team formally known as the Edmonton Eskimos recently announce that they would be ditching their name after years-long debates. 

On Tuesday, July 21, the team announced what the Edmonton Eskimos' new name will be for the time being in a social media post.

The post explained that the Board of Directors has made the decision to discontinue the name and the placeholder names above will be in place while they "go through the process of determining a new name befitting our storied team."

The change comes after years of petitions and public outcries for the team to drop the name.

It's unclear at this time what the team's final name will be.
