Edmonton's CFL Team Have A Whole New Look & A Whole New Team Name

Antler up, Edmonton!

Staff Writer

Say hello to the CFL's newest not-so-new team: the Edmonton Elks.

A year after Edmonton's CFL team announced they were officially changing their name, the Elks announced a whole bunch of new changes — including a new name — on June 1, 2021.

In a video posted to social media, the team showed off their brand-new logo — a graphic reimagining of an elk — and a new motto for fans to cheer: Antler up, Edmonton!

The new logo can be seen adorning the field at Commonwealth Stadium and the horns of the elk can be seen on the helmet of the new uniform, giving all Edmonton's players antlers of their own.

The previous name was criticized for being racist and offensive to Inuit people in Canada, and discussions about changing the name were ongoing for several years before the former name was dropped.
