Alberta's First University COVID-19 Outbreak Was Just Reported In Edmonton

As of Monday, September 21, a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in a men's residence at the University of Alberta (U of A).

The U of A COVID-19 outbreak at St. Joseph's College was reported after five people involved in the "campus community," tested positive.

As a precaution, the remaining 14 residents of the men's residence will be self-isolating for the next 14 days.

As a result of the outbreak, varsity activities have been suspended for 14 days since those infected took part in campus athletics. 

The university said that the other residences are safe and that risk of COVID-19 exposure is still low. 

This is the first COVID-19 outbreak reported at a university in Alberta.
