According to new reports, Air Canada has been working with social media influencers to promote travel deals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the last month, multiple bloggers and influencers have been spotted promoting travel “in partnership with Air Canada Vacations,” as reported by the Globe and Mail and NEWS1130.

Tiffany Lai, a Montreal-based Instagrammer, wrote in one post: “I’ve partnered up with @aircanadavacations and @dreamsresort to show a safe and cautious way of travelling for 2021.”

Jennifer Fast, an Alberta-based Instagrammer, has also recently shared similar posts.

This comes despite repeated warnings from the Canadian government that non-essential travel should be avoided right now.

Speaking on January 5, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada’s travel rules are “very clear” and confirmed that nobody should be taking international vacations right now.

That said, there is no outright travel ban in place.

Canadians are still free to travel if they want to, providing they complete the mandatory quarantine period in Canada upon their return.

As of January 7, all incoming travellers will also have to show a negative COVID-19 test prior to boarding a flight into Canada.
