To combat the spread of COVID-19, Canada travel restrictions will soon require all airline passengers to have a negative test before arriving in the country.

Canada will be implementing a rule that requires every person on all flights coming into the country to have a pre-boarding negative COVID-19 test three days before arrival.

We strongly advise against travel unless it is absolutely necessary. Bill Blair

Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs Dominic LeBlanc made the announcement on December 30.

He was joined by Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Bill Blair who said that this is a "strong action" to limit the spread of COVID-19 in Canada.

Canada's federal minister of transport will be putting the testing requirement in place and there are still discussions about how it will be implemented.

"This is not an alternative to quarantine, this is an additional measure," Blair said.

He also noted that Canada is still "strongly" advising against travel unless it's for essential reasons.

Recently, the federal government has said that travel restrictions are "working" and warned that you could be stuck outside of Canada if you leave the country.
