New research has found that Canada’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution is lagging behind other countries, particularly when it comes to doses administered per 100 people. On February 10, 2021, Bloomberg updated their global COVID-19 Tracker, which is monitoring the number of vaccines being administered across 75 countries. However, while the Canadian government continues to promise that everyone who wants a vaccine will have one by September, Bloomberg’s research suggests Canada’s vaccine efforts are falling behind other countries right now. In a ranking of total doses administered, Canada places 17th. While it’s not too far down on the list, it places behind countries like the United States, China, the United Kingdom, India and more. However, it falls much further down on the global ranking of doses administered per 100 people. According to the Bloomberg vaccine tracker, Canada has slipped to 38th for vaccination rates per 100 people. If the European Union is included in the list, Canada falls another place to 39th. Bloomberg notes that its data is collected using a seven-day average for each country. “For countries that don’t report daily, the last-known average rate is used,” the study explains. It’s not the only recent COVID-19 report that Canada has fallen short on, either. According to Bloomberg’s latest "Covid Resilience Ranking," Canada didn't make the top 10 on their “best places to live” during the pandemic.
