On Wednesday, Doug Ford announced that Ontarians who live in specific hot spot communities will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccines right away. 

These high-risk zones are sorted by postal codes, and those living in these regions will get priority for their first dose — Ford says the aim is to make doses available to all hot spot residents who are 18 or older.

According to infectious diseases physician Dr. Isaac Bogoch, who is also on Ontario's vaccine distribution task force, high-risk communities will be served by mobile and pop-up vaccine clinics. 

Residents 55 or older are now permitted to make appointments at participating pharmacies around the province, of which there are now over 700.

Ontario is also now in Phase 2 of its vaccine rollout, which will prioritize essential workers, those with high-risk health conditions and their caregivers, residents of congregate settings, and more.
