Peel police have charged a man for allegedly attempting to pass through Pearson Airport with a fake COVID-19 test.

The individual has been identified as a 45-year-old man from Edmonton, Alberta, who flew into Toronto from an unspecified international destination on Sunday, March 21 at 4 p.m., according to Peel police.

"[A] CBSA officer was conducting an inspection check of various entry documents, including a negative COVID-19 document. It appeared to be fraudulent, and Public Health reviewed it," say police. 

After officers realized it was indeed a forged COVID-19 test, they arrested the man and charged him with 'Unlawfully Did Knowingly Use a Forged Document.'

On March 22, the man attended the Ontario Court of Justice and was subsequently released from custody, with conditions. He was then returned to the Canadian Border Services Agency for processing by Public Health Canada.
