This Ontario lakeside city with cobblestone streets and hidden alleys is like a trip to Europe

No plane ticket needed.

Craving a European getaway? This beautiful Ontario city will whisk you away to another world with its charming streets and old-world ambiance. You can enjoy scenic patios, cozy shops and historic architecture without a lengthy flight.

In a post on Narcity Canada's Facebook page, we asked readers to share destinations in Ontario that make them feel like they're in Europe. This city with fairytale charm was one of the recommended spots.

Kingston is a beautiful destination on the shores of Lake Ontario. Europeans settled the city in the 17th century, and it became Canada's First Capital in 1841. Much of this heritage is reflected throughout the streets today.

Dubbed the "Limestone City," Kingston boasts gorgeous stone buildings and Victorian neighbourhoods that will make you forget you're in Canada.

From the majestic City Hall to quaint Springer Market Square, you'll find European vibes around every corner.

The city is brimming with cafes and eateries, from sushi spots to cozy coffee nooks. You can dig into drool-worthy brunches and waterfront dinners during your visit.

There are also hidden alleyways to discover, including the artsy Martello Alley and haunted Rochleau Court.

Kingston has endless attractions to enjoy year-round. During the warmer months, you can watch movies in the historic square, cruise around the 1000 Islands region, and soak up some sun on the beautiful patios. In the winter, the city transforms into a postcard-worthy destination, with glittering windows, an ice rink and horse-drawn carriages.

Other activities to check out include trolley tours, haunted walks and the Kingston Penitentiary.

With old-world streets and European vibes, Kingston is a magical spot for a getaway.
