In a press release on Monday, it was revealed that face masks in Durham Region will be required when residents are in public and indoor spaces.

The new rule will be put in place in multiple areas, including retail and convenience stores, malls, community centres, libraries, and more.

Those who have health problems or who are under the age of two will be exempt from wearing masks.

The Region of Durham will be using "good faith" when it comes to ensuring that people are actually following the rules.

The move comes after multiple other cities, including Toronto, have also made face coverings mandatory in indoor public spaces.
