Canada's Department of National Defence is looking to hire nurse practitioners to work in the Canadian Forces Health Services, a designated health care provider for military personnel.

Positions are available in cities across Canada.

That includes Victoria, Calgary, Edmonton, Yellowknife, Moose Jaw, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, and St. John's.

The salary for these high-paying jobs is $97,100 to $113,163 a year.

Plus, nurses receive an annual allowance from $605 to $3,850 and nurse practitioners receive an annual allowance of $18,000.

You need to have completed a nurse practitioner program recognized by the provincial/territorial regulatory authority with an NP-Adult or NP-PHC specialty certificate.

You must be eligible to be registered as a nurse practitioner — NP, RN (EC), RN (NP), or RN (EP) — in a province or territory of Canada and have no current license suspensions/restrictions with any professional regulatory organizations.

You also need:

  • experience as a nurse practitioner in a community or clinical setting
  • experience in ambulatory care, acute care or community health care
  • experience in adult education and health promotion
  • experience in accessing professional literature to provide current evidence-based care

Knowledge of assessing, diagnosing, treating and managing a range of acute and chronic medical conditions as a nurse practitioner is required as well.
