Nova Scotia Brewery Shut Down After Someone From BC Went There Without Self-Isolating

The beer has stopped flowing. Nova Scotia's self-isolation rules weren't followed by a B.C. woman when she arrived in the province and a brewery had to shut down because she went there. The woman got charged and fined for what she did.

Route 19 Brewing, located in Inverness, has closed the doors of their taproom until further notice because of the out of province traveller who went there without self-isolating first.

On Facebook, the brewery posted about the closure, what happened after the woman visited and what's next.

"Following a thorough sanitization of our facility yesterday, this is a precautionary closure due to the individual's failure to self-isolate when entering the Atlantic Bubble," they said.

There is no date set yet for when the taproom can reopen and people can visit once again.

With the health and safety of customers and staff as a top priority, Route 19 Brewing is working with public health officials to figure out when exactly that reopening can happen.

The woman was at the taphouse around noon on August 9.

Route 19 Brewing said they were told by public health officials that anyone who was there that day doesn't have to self-isolate but should monitor themselves for symptoms.

According to CTV News, Inverness District RCMP received a complaint on August 10 about someone not complying with Nova Scotia's Health Protection Act.

That act includes the 14-day self-isolation rule for people entering the province from outside of the Atlantic bubble.

Officers charged a 38-year-old B.C. woman with violating the act. There's a $1,000 fine associated with that.

In July, someone was caught not quarantining after arriving in Nova Scotia from the U.S. and was fined $1,000.

Earlier that month, someone who came to the province from our neighbouring country was linked to multiple COVID-19 cases in P.E.I.

The Atlantic bubble allows people in New Brunswick, P.E.I., Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador to travel within the region without isolation requirements.

When it opened, there were massive line ups at the border.
