Olympic Hockey Star & Med Student Hayley Wickenheiser Just Got The COVID-19 Vaccine

A Canadian hockey player turned medical student recently got the COVID-19 vaccine and says she is "grateful" for it. 

While some actors and politicians around the world have already been vaccinated, many Canadians have yet to get their dose but Hayley Wickenheiser is an exception as a frontline worker.

Wickenheiser, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, as per her Twitter bio, took to the social media on platform Tuesday to share the moment with her followers.

She said she was vaccinated in Guelph, Ontario and had all the feels.

"As numbers here climb and I am among the fortunate trusted who get to battle this thing from the front lines," she said.

"Science is incredible. Scientists and laboratory technicians are some of the greatest heroes of this pandemic."

Wickenheiser made headlines at the start of the pandemic when she took to Twitter to make a public plea to get personal protective equipment to frontline workers.

Her voice was further amplified when Ryan Reynolds, a good friend of hers, quote-tweeted her ask and made one of his own.

The fundraiser, called "Conquer COVID-19" and started by friends of Wickenheiser, raised over $2 million in donations and collected 600,000 in donated personal gear, according to Sportsnet.
