An apology has been issued by Jagmeet Singh after he was seen hugging someone who is apparently not from his household without wearing a mask.

A video obtained by Global News and dated May 8, 2021, shows a maskless Singh getting out of a car with someone who is also not wearing a mask. They hug and then walk away together.

A source told Narcity that the NDP leader was returning from an event in Mississauga, Ontario, with a party volunteer and they had been wearing masks all day but not when they got home. It was noted that while they've both had their first doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, they are still required to wear masks.

"Like most Canadians, I did my best to follow public health advice. Coming back from this event, I let my guard down and I'm sorry for that," Singh said in an emailed statement to Narcity. "I will do better to keep my family and our community safe. We cannot let our guard down if we are to defeat this virus, and I pledge to continue to do my best until we are on the other side of the fence."

Another politician was also recently seen not following public health measures. Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante said she made a "mistake" while at a patio by not putting her mask on when people came to her table, which is in violation of Quebec's rules for outdoor dining.
