The leader of the "Proud Boys" — a  notorious far-right group — has been arrested in Washington D.C. on suspicion of burning a Black Lives Matter flag in 2020.

According to local police, via BBC News, Enrique Tarrio faces charges of misdemeanour destruction of property.

He faces additional charges for apparently having two illegal high capacity firearm magazines in his possession when he was arrested.

The group’s leader has reportedly admitted to torching the flag, which was taken from a Black church during an American election rally on December 12, 2020.

"Let me make this simple," he told the Washington Post last year. "I did it."

However, he said the act was not motivated by race, religion or politics, but because, he claims, the movement “has terrorized the citizens of this country.”

At the time, Tarrio was marching in support of Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims of fraud during the 2020 U.S. presidential election.

On January 6, the day Congress is set to certify Joe Biden's election victory, the "Proud Boys" are planning another large protest.

According to Tarrio, they intend to "turn out in record numbers.”

Last year, the Canadian Armed Forces took aim at the far-right group, trolling them with a powerful message of tolerance online.
