Hurricane season is finally here for the southern US and with it comes lots of thunder and lightning.

Though rare, people do die every year in the US from lightning strikes. So far this year there have been 5 recorded deaths due to lightening. The most recent was on July 3.

Four out of the five were recorded in southern US states including Florida, Georgia, Texas and South Carolina.

The fifth fatality was in Colorado. 

Deaths ranged in age from 9-65.
