Summary

This Ontario island with crystal water beaches was named among Canada's top 10 destinations

It's a little slice of paradise.

Canada has a wide range of stunning destinations to explore, from majestic mountains to shining coastlines. If you're planning a staycation, you might want to add this Canadian spot to your travel plans.

CBC's The Current recently asked Canadians to submit their favourite local travel destinations, and over 2,000 suggestions were received from coast to coast.

After narrowing the entries down to a shortlist of 20, listeners voted to determine the final top 10, and this breathtaking Ontario island with crystal-clear waters and dreamy shores made the cut.

Manitoulin Island is a stunning gem located on Lake Huron. It is the largest freshwater island in the world and boasts 2,765 square kilometres of sandy beaches, natural wonders and more.

During the warmer months, the island is a haven for outdoor adventures and incredible experiences.

You can head to Misery Bay Provincial Park, where you can hike along breathtaking trails and enjoy the views of the Lake Huron Coastline.

If you're looking for another beautiful hiking spot, the Cup and Saucer Trail offers a panoramic lookout over the island and is a dreamy place for an adventure. Or, head to East Bluff Lookout for more towering scenery.

You can also visit the majestic Bridal Veil Falls, a hidden waterfall that cascades into a swimming hole.

Providence Bay Beach is the place to be during warm summer days. The 2-kilometre powdery sand shoreline and crystal waves will make you feel like you're in another world. Other swimming spots include Lake Mindemoya and Julia Bay.

You can get to Manitoulin Island by driving over the Little Current Swing Bridge or hopping on the Chi-Cheemaun Ferry from Tobermory.

Stratford was the only other Ontario destination to CBC's top 10, so whether you are after cozy small-town charm or the laid-back magic of island life, Ontario has something for everyone.
