Content-sharing platform OnlyFans has reverted its decision to ban the posting of content that contains "sexually explicit conduct," after the move prompted backlash from content creators and users.

In a short statement on August 25, the company wrote, "Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard."

"We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change," it continued.

The message came less than one week after the platform announced that it would be updating its content guidelines as of October 1, 2021.

Under the new rules, "the posting of any content containing sexually explicit conduct" would not be permitted, although nudity would still be accepted "as long as it is consistent with [the company's] Acceptable Use Policy."

However, on Wednesday OnlyFans walked back on this update, saying that "OnlyFans stands for inclusion and [it] will continue to provide a home for all creators."

"An official communication to creators will be emailed shortly," it added.

OnlyFans is a content-subscription service that enables creators to earn money from "fans" who pay a monthly fee to access their content. Explicit content does exist on the platform, in addition to things like fitness and self-care.
