If sparkling waves, peaceful afternoons, soft-sand shores and sun-kissed beaches sound like your idea of the perfect summer day, you'll want to plan a trip to this dreamy Ontario destination.

Offering beautiful swimming spots, small-town charm and picturesque scenery, this hidden gem feels like a mini escape to the coast — no plane ticket required.

Erieau is a tiny village peninsula on Lake Erie, home to under 400 residents. The picturesque town offers several local shops, restaurants, and stunning surroundings waiting to be explored.

One of the highlights is the beach, which, according to Ontario's Southwest, boasts "some of the warmest waters in all of Ontario." You can splash in the bathtub-like waters of Lake Erie and soak up some sun on the velvety shores.

You can also enjoy a scenic stroll along the pier to the lighthouse, where you can snap photos and watch the boats drift by on the shimmering waves.

It isn't a beach day without an ice cream cone, and Erieau boasts a few places where you can cool off with a sweet treat. Mariners Cone and Shake, as well as Erieview Ice Cream, both serve up classic scoops, sundaes, and more that are perfect for enjoying after a swim.

Bring some comfy shoes, because the town is home to several picturesque trails to explore, such as the Erieau Marsh Trail.

Just a short drive from the town, you'll discover Rondeau Provincial Park, which is home to several scenic hikes and 11 kilometres of sandy beaches.

If you're craving sparkling waters and a slower pace, this cute beach town is worth a summer road trip.
