Brace yourselves, Ontario drivers — gas prices in Ontario have been creeping up by a cent or two over the last few days, but tomorrow's hike is going to be a bigger one, with prices set to rise by 4 cents per litre in major cities across the province.

If you're looking to save at the pump, now's the time to find the cheapest gas in Ontario before the next jump.

With Ontario gas prices on the rise, it's worth filling up as soon as possible to avoid paying more tomorrow. We've rounded up the best places to fuel up for less, so you can dodge the higher costs headed our way.

What's happening with Ontario gas prices?

According to gas price predictions site Gas Wizard, starting tomorrow, October 5, gas prices are expected to rise by 4 cents per litre in major cities across Ontario.

If you're pretty much anywhere in southern Ontario — including Toronto and the GTA, Barrie, Hamilton, London, Niagara, Waterloo and Windsor — you can expect to pay around 152.9 cents per litre for regular gas, 182.9 cents for premium and 151.9 cents for diesel tomorrow.

Where's the cheapest gas in Ontario?

  • Cornwall & Peterborough: Regular gas is set to rise 3 cents in Cornwall and 4 cents in Peterborough, bringing both spots to 144.9 per litre — the cheapest gas in Ontario tomorrow.
  • Sudbury: Often one of the more expensive spots in the province, Sudbury is the only spot in the province set to remain unchanged from today's prices, staying at around 145.4 cents per litre and a great option for cheap gas in northern Ontario.
  • Kingston: Prices here are set to rise by 4 cents to 146.9, making this another budget-friendly spot to fill up tomorrow.
  • Ottawa: Also set to rise 4 cents tomorrow, Ottawa should have regular gas priced around 151.9 cents per litre.
  • Thunder Bay: As usual, gas here remains some of the most expensive in the province, although this time, it's tied with southern Ontario prices at 152.9.

Expert insights

Gas analyst Dan McTeague recently gave Narcity some insights into Ontario's fluctuating fuel prices, noting that the transition to winter-blend gasoline can affect the market in various ways.

According to AAA, winter-blend gas contains more butane, making it less expensive but also more volatile in warmer weather. Summer blend, on the other hand, performs better in the heat but comes at a higher cost.

So while prices are on the rise tomorrow, there may be an overall downward trend on its way as we make the seasonal change.

National context

According to CAA, the national average for gas prices in Canada as of Friday, October 4 sits at 146.4 cents per litre. This is notably lower than the year's peak of 172.4 cents per litre, which was recorded on April 19, 2024. In contrast, the lowest point in the past year was on January 11, 2024, when prices averaged 135.8 cents per litre.

The current 146.4 cents per litre is the lowest daily average seen over the past month, while the highest was 156.2. Keep an eye on these price shifts, as they often fluctuate based on seasonal fuel blends and changing demand.

What's next?

With prices set to rise tomorrow, your best bet is to fill up today if you're nearly anywhere in Ontario, but especially across southern Ontario, where prices will be highest in the province tomorrow.

Remember: Prices can vary slightly by location, so always check your local gas station before filling up.
