Ontario gas prices are expected to drop by an average of 4 cents per litre on Thursday, bringing relief to the wallets of drivers across the province.

If you've been following the fluctuating gas prices in Ontario and have been waiting to fill up, now's the time to take advantage of these savings. Many regions are set to see a decrease, with some areas likely to see even bigger cuts.

According to Gas Wizard, starting tomorrow, gas prices in Ontario will decrease across several regions.

Toronto and Niagara will see regular gas prices drop to 150.9 cents per litre, while Ottawa and London will see prices dip to 149.9 cents per litre.

Premium and diesel prices will also decrease in many areas, with Niagara and Waterloo following suit. Premium gas in these cities will be 180.9 cents per litre, and diesel will drop to 150.9 cents per litre.

Where will gas be cheapest?

If you're wondering where to find the cheapest gas prices tomorrow, Kingston is expected to offer the best deal at 141.9 cents per litre—making it the most affordable spot to fuel up in Ontario thanks to a 5-cent drop.

Sudbury also offers lower prices compared to other regions thanks to a whopping 9-cent drop, with regular gas expected to sit at 146.9 cents per litre.

Expert insights

Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy, provided some insights into these price changes.

According to McTeague, the recent drops offer immediate relief, but bigger savings are on the way. "In two weeks, we'll switch to winter blend gasoline, which should lower prices by another 5-7 cents per litre," he told Narcity. However, McTeague also warned that diesel prices might rise by a similar amount during this transition.

National context

According to CAA, the daily national average for gas prices in Canada as of September 4, 2024, is 156.2 cents per litre. This marks a decrease from 2024's high of 172.4 cents per litre recorded on April 19, 2024. The lowest point this year occurred on January 11, 2024, when prices were at 135.8 cents per litre.

The lowest price in the past month was 156.2 cents per litre on August 22, 2024, while the highest was 159.5 cents per litre on August 19, 2024. Keep an eye on the fluctuating prices, as they can shift based on demand and seasonal fuel blends.

Other regions like Niagara, Waterloo, and Sudbury are also offering significant reductions. And don’t forget—bigger savings are on the way with the upcoming switch to winter blend gasoline!
