If you were dreaming of soaking up the sun this Victoria Day long weekend, Ontario's weather might have other ideas.

According to a forecast from The Weather Network (TWN), parts of Ontario are in for a stormy stretch, with the potential for strong winds, heavy rain, and even hail.

Early risers across southern Ontario likely got a surprise wake-up call Friday morning, thanks to booming thunder and flashing lightning as a warm front rolled through.

While things may stay warm and dry for the rest of the day, with temperatures soaring above 20 C, the calm won't last long.

More storms are brewing and could fire up again on Friday afternoon across eastern Ontario as that weather system keeps pushing northeast toward Quebec.

But it doesn't stop there. TWN expects a stronger system to move in on Friday night and into early Saturday, bringing an even higher risk of severe weather, especially for areas like Windsor and Kitchener-Waterloo.

People in Toronto and the GTA might feel some déjà vu as more storms are forecast to hit before sunrise on Saturday, May 17.

Then, there could be multiple rounds of storms thanks to a low-pressure system spinning over the Great Lakes.

The messy weather will stretch into cottage country and eastern Ontario by Saturday afternoon.

However, the long weekend weather forecast isn't all doom and gloom.

Sunday looks calmer, with drier conditions expected across much of the province. But don't be shocked if clouds and the occasional shower pop up.

Temperatures will also be more typical of May, with highs in the low to mid-teens on Sunday, May 18, and Monday, May 19.

So, if you've got outdoor plans, keep an eye on the forecast and maybe pack a rain jacket just in case — it's one of those weekends.
