For two days in a row, Ontario's daily COVID-19 cases are more than 3,000.

Minister of Health Christine Elliot tweeted that there were 3,009 cases reported on April 3 and 3,089 on April 2, which works out to more than 6,000 over the span of two days.

There were 954 new cases reported in Toronto, 434 in Peel, 348 in York Region, 205 in Ottawa and 146 in Hamilton on April 3.

This comes just as Ontario entered a provincewide shutdown that bans indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants and places capacity limits on retailers, among other measures.

Over the last week, only seven health regions in Canada had zero COVID-19 cases and none of them were in Ontario.
