Ottawa's Chateau Laurier Is Getting A Makeover & The New Look Was Just Revealed (VIDEO)

The skyline will never be the same!

Major changes could be on the way for downtown Ottawa. Issues with the Fairmont Chateau Laurier renovation have been resolved and there's a new design to it that was just revealed. The French-style hotel won't be completely unrecognizable with this because it's just an addition to the original building.

On August 13 it was announced that an agreement has been reached between Capital Hotel Limited Partnership and Heritage Ottawa about building an addition to the Chateau Laurier.

There were even legal proceedings about the addition but that has been resolved with the agreement.

The design was revised after consultations with experts in heritage architecture who ensured proper conservation of the site's important historical aspects.

Those experts included representatives from Heritage Ottawa.

Now there will be discussions with the City of Ottawa and the National Capital Commission about the revised plans.

With the new design, the addition would be at the back and side of the hotel that can be seen from Major's Hill Park, Wellington Street and the National War Memorial.

Rendering images show multilevel buildings with a more sleek, modern design and lots of windows.

There are also walkways that connect the hotel to the addition and the two new buildings to each other.

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson shared his feelings about the agreement on Twitter.

He said that the new design protects the views from Major's Hill Park and meets key conditions that were set by the council.

"I’ll look forward to the debate at Committee and Council on this proposed design that protects the cherished Château Laurier for current and future generations," Watson said in another tweet.

Chateau Laurier reopened for the Canada Day long weekend after being closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hotel's La Terrasse restaurant patio is also open now, with 166 physically distanced seats and new shaded cabanas so people can eat and drink outside while being safe and relaxed.

You can get a massive surf and turf Caesar that's rimmed with shrimp and topped with sliders.
